Functional surfaces by atmospheric pressure plasma processes

In cell cultivation, protein cleaning, the development of medication and biosensors, in medical products such as stents or tubes, in many fields of biology and medicine, special requirements apply to the surfaces of the materials used. In many cases the products used are made of inexpensive polymers whose surfaces do often not meet there high demands. Atmospheric-pressure plasma processes, such as developed at the Fraunhofer IST, offer various possibilities to modify the physical or chemical properties of surfaces making them suitable for biomedical applications.
