Safe methods for cryopreservation

The implementation of standardized screenings demands an efficient storage of cell material. The only possibility to achieve that currently is storage at cryogenic temperatures. Due to the interdisciplinary cooperation between engineers and natural scientists of several working groups the Fraunhofer IBMT owns an unique competence in the field of cryo and bio databank technology. The Fraunhofer IBMT focusses on developing new freezing processes and freezing media for the cryopreservation of therapeutically relevant cell systems.

  • Development of new substrates for the cryopreservation of cells
  • Development of new cryopreservation media
  • Research and development of new optical methods for the examination of cryobiological effects
  • Examination and optimization of cryopreservation processes with regard to general and cell specific parameters
  • Research and development for a sample management of cryopreserved samples
  • Examination of the influence to longtermstored biological samples at cryogenic temperatures
