Fraunhofer Project LabBag®

For the LabBag® competence cluster the three participating Fraunhofer institutes focus their diverse competencies. The following will detail the core capabilities of each institute.

Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT

The Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT acts as device and technology developer when it comes to the solution of individual research and development projects and tasks from the areas of biomedical/medical engineering, molecular and cellular biotechnology, biohybrid technology, cryo(bio)technology and nano(bio)technology, ultrasound technology, neuroprosthetics/implants, (mobile) laboratory technology, sensor and measurement technology, health telematics, environmental control systems, material testing, home systems, air quality control and security systems as well as laboratory automation including in-line/on-line process control. For more than 10 years Fraunhofer IBMT works in the field of stem cell research and hosts extensive cell line stocks in industrially and clinically structured biobanks for low temperature storage of valuable samples (fluids, cells, tissue fragments).

Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST

As an innovative R&D partner the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST offers complete solutions in surface engineering which are developed in cooperation with customers from industry and research. The IST’s “product” is the surface, optimized by modification, patterning, and / or coating for applications mainly in the business units mechanical engineering, tools and automotive technology, energy and electronics, optics, life science and ecology as well as aerospace.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV stands for high-quality food products and safe, effective, and convenient packaging systems. Efficient use of raw materials and minimal environmental impact are priorities in all our development work. We also transfer our technologies and expertise to applications outside the food and packaging industries.
